Religious Education For Tolerance

by: Theodora van Boven

In 2016, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to the NICMCR-conference about Religious Education for Tolerance (Ambon, August 2016) by mapping the status quo of religious education in public and religiously-affiliated secondary schools in both counties.

The aim of this study was to provide insights in possibilities and different ways to further stimulate the development of education that contributes to the elimination of negative stereotypes and the dissemination of religious literacy. I am sincerely grateful to all the people I’ve met during my research, for sharing their knowledge and illuminating views on religious education and tolerance in both the Netherlands and Indonesia and hope that this study will provide some insights on how to further stimulate the dissemination of religious tolerance in schools.
