The Role of Women in Extremism

The number of female terrorists and suicide bombers in Indonesia has increased in the last few years. The few attacks that were carried out in recent memories have left the nation perplexed about the growing role of women in terrorist networks. What drove these women to commit this act? Is there a policy in which a gender lens is incorporated in counter-terrorism strategies?. Back in the Netherland or Europe in general, what happens with the fate of ‘the brides of ISIS’? Can they return to Europe?

Martijn de Koning (Radboud University, Nijmegen) and Milda Istiqomah (Director at Centre for Terrorism and Transnational Crime Studies of Brawijaya University, Malang) will enlighten us on the above subject. This event is organized by The Netherlands-Indonesia Consortium for Muslim-Christian Relations (NICMCR), nicmcr.org.
