GAME ON! Playful Religious Education
Webinar on zoom
This webinar discusses the ongoing processes of polarisation and radicalisation urge for attentive teaching and learning for youngsters in the Netherland who – related to their age of puberty and young adolescence – are vulnerable to radicalizing ideas. Based on a three year research, one method to overcome polarisation and radicalisation is by applying a ‘mirror-mind game’. Developed from knowledge of texts and narratives from Qur’an and Hadith, and their contextual understanding, with a focus on ‘good behaviour’ in a plural society, the research identified the concept of ‘hybrid identity’ among Dutch-Turkish, Dutch-Muslim, Moroccan-Dutch etc. The ‘mirror-mind’ game challenges youngsters to make use of the lessons learned and enter into dialogue with their classmates. These classmates mutually mirror each other’s sayings, as such contribution to the ongoing process of religious identity development.
